Introduction
This page of the research project will explicitly focus on public signboards, specifically examining its’ different types, use of language, visual aspects, and geographically mapping. This is an important feature to look out to, considering Kabuki-cho to be the largest red-light district of Japan and its’ development of becoming a tourist hotspot in recent years. Moreover, acknowledging the district’s high crime rate, analyzing the government’s effort in maintaining civic order through the media of signboards, would initially give us a good understanding of how signboards are significant in creating the city scape we see today.
For the sake of this research project (to avoid confusion), ‘public signboards’ will be defined as the following;
Signboards which are issued by public organizations (e.g., government, district bodies…) that are not utilized for business / economic profit intentions
